Breedon’s BEAR associate wins Scottish 4G contract

Bear Scotland Ltd re-awarded fourth-generation road maintenance contract for north-east region

BREEDON Aggregates’ associate company BEAR Scotland Ltd has been re-awarded the fourth-generation (4G) road maintenance contract for the north-east of Scotland for a further six years, with scope for an additional two-year extension.

BEAR Scotland have held the north-east contract since 2001, with responsibility for overseeing 613 miles of trunk roads in the region. BEAR also manage the north-west trunk road network, having won the 4G contract for that region in 2012.

The contract for the south-east region, formerly held by BEAR Scotland, has been awarded to Amey.

Alan Mackenzie, chief executive of Breedon Aggregates Scotland, commented: ‘This is great news for Breedon, who are major suppliers of aggregates, asphalt and contract surfacing to BEAR in the north-east of Scotland.

‘It’s a real vote of confidence in BEAR’s quality of service and competitiveness, and we look forward to supporting them in the coming years as they work with Transport Scotland to repair and maintain the region’s roads, which are so vitally important to the regional economy.’

The new north-east contract will take effect from 16 August 2014.
