ATH gain approval for Langton regeneration

ATH Resources have been given the go-ahead by Derbyshire County Council over their planning application for the development of a proposed coal regeneration scheme at the former Langton colliery, near Pinxton, on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border.

The move follows an appeal by ATH over Derbyshire County Council’s decision earlier this year to rule against the application. The application has already received the approval of Nottinghamshire County Council.

ATH say they plan to commence plant construction at Langton as early as possible with coal production from the site expected to begin in the second half of 2010.

The operation is expected to produce approximately 175,000 tonnes of coal per annum over a two-and-a-half-year period and will generate employment for 35 people.

Restoration of the site following extraction and washing will take a further six months.

‘I am delighted that the benefits of this project to the area have ultimately been recognized,’ said Tom Allchurch, chief executive of ATH Resources. ‘The development of the scheme will clean up and regenerate an area despoiled by former mine activity and will create valuable local employment.’
