Another Volvo package for Tillicoultry Quarries

Volvo A30G hauler and L120H wheel loader

Scottish quarry operator takes delivery of a further three new loading shovels and another articulated hauler

LONG-standing users of Volvo Construction Equipment products, Tillicoultry Quarries have purchased a further three new Volvo loading shovels and another A30G articulated hauler for their quarrying operations spread across Scotland’s Central Belt and Ayrshire.

This latest package includes two L120H loading shovels complete with 3.5 cubic metre rehandling buckets and boom suspension systems, one of which has been allocated to Tillicoultry’s Northfield Quarry and the other to Tulliallan Quarry. Both machines will be put in charge of general rehandling and stocking-out duties.

In addition, a larger Volvo L150H equipped with a 4.2 cubic metre rehandling bucket has been sourced to operate at Hullerhill sand quarry, and a new A30G fitted with locally produced side extensions to maximize its payload capacity has gone to Northfield.

Tillicoultry Quarries’ managing director, Wallace Menzies, said: ‘We have a long association with Volvo construction equipment products, having operated their loading shovels and haulers for the past 32 years.

‘The Volvo product represents excellent value for money in terms of economical fuel consumption, high residual values, a proven track record for reliability and sustainability, and their qualities and pedigree mirror our own high standards in offering a competitive and professional service.’

Powered by a Tier IV final Volvo 8-litre engine that develops 276hp with a maximum torque of 1,317Nm at just 1,450 rev/min, the L120H also benefits from Volvo-designed and manufactured driveline components designed to offer considerable fuel savings on each shift.

Fuel savings are further enhanced by the Volvo Eco pedal which encourages the operator to run the machine at its optimum rev/min in the engine’s torque curve. The larger L150H is powered by a 13-litre engine rated at 303hp and shares similar torque characteristics, with maximum values achieved at relatively low rev/min.

With a carrying capacity of 28 tonnes and heaped capacity of 17.5 cubic metres, the Volvo A30G also meets the requirements of Stage IV final emissions legislation, being powered by an electronically controlled, six-cylinder, 264kW turbocharged Volvo V-ACT diesel engine.

This features high torque at low engine speeds, resulting in good fuel efficiency and high performance. Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is designed to exactly match the Volvo drivetrain, ensuring the best use of power and torque, even in tough working conditions.

The new 30 tonne articulated hauler has been supplied complete with a full cantilever tailgate and locally produced side extensions to maximize the load-carrying capacity of the truck.

All the machines are fitted with Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system as standard, allowing remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions such as location, fuel consumption, service reminders etc, to help optimize customer operations.

In addition, Tillicoultry Quarries have included service agreements with each machine, which means that SMT GB will take care of scheduled maintenance with Volvo-trained service engineers using genuine Volvo parts.
