Amphenol launch new medium-voltage couplers

Latest MVC series couplers range from 600V to 15kV with ratings up to 600A

AMPHENOL Industrial Global Operations, a world leader in interconnect systems, have introduced a new line of heavy-duty, medium-voltage couplers (MCV) for use in hazardous environments.

Suitable for applications in the mining and quarrying industries for safe and reliable transfer of electricity throughout a site, the MVC series range in voltage from 600V to 15kV with amperages up to 600A.

The new couplers feature Amphenol’s patented RADSOK technology, which is said to offer higher current ratings (up to 25% higher than standard contacts) and lower mating forces, as well as high reliability, low contact resistance, high mating cycles and a self-cleaning design.

The MVC units also benefit from Amphenol’s Rapid-Couple technology, an interlock method that allows for quick and easy mating and unmating in the field without the need for tools or closing mechanisms. The couplers also have secure fitted covers that repel water and soil while keeping the contacts uncontaminated when used in hazardous conditions.

Constructed with a standard aluminium housing, they feature elongated ground planes, fully shielded phase conductors, solder and compression terminated contacts, as well as fire-retardant insulators.

The heavy-duty couplers are available in various powder coat colours and all parts are replaceable and serviced easily on site. A combined strain-relief and cable seal ensures superior sealing against moisture.
