Fine screening bucket on hire from Finlay proves its worth on Alaska Environmental dredging project

WHEN Dorset-based Alaska Environmental Contracting were looking to fine-tune work to dredge silt and organic debris from the bed of a lake, as part of an estate restoration project, they contacted the Finlay Group for advice on how best to utilize their 40mm Allu screener crusher bucket for the works.

Following a close analysis of the project in the grounds of St Giles House, in Wimborne St Giles, Finlay suggested the Allu fine screening model, an example of which was taken to site for a free demonstration.

After proving its worth on the project, Alaska opted to hire the fine screening model until the end of the contract, which involved removing the silt and organics from the lake, while screening out oversize stone and gravel, and loading it on to a floating conveyor.

Rick Bossons, contracts manager at Alaska, said: ‘We have owned an Allu screener crusher bucket for several years now and have always been pleased with its performance. It has been used for a number of tasks sensitive to the environment, including macerating reed rhizome on a nature reserve, but for the project at Wimborne St Giles we needed a different type of Allu bucket to our own.

‘Having the fine screening model on demonstration was really useful and it proved to be just the right tool for the job. It’s an excellent piece of machinery; tough, reliable and integral to the success of our work.’

The 25mm Allu fine screening bucket was fitted to a Volvo EC210 equipped with Kori amphibious pontoon tracks to allow material to be dredged from the lake bed and screened on to the floating conveyor system.

Chris Bell of the Finlay Group commented: ‘The Allu fine screening model, with its ‘disc-in-disc’ design, is ideal in applications such as this where the material needs aggressive agitation without crushing.

‘As well as the efficiency of having a one-step excavating and screening process, the bucket is able to screen material that would blind most mesh screens.’

He added: ‘It is notable how Alaska Environmental carry out their work with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment, and the Allu bucket helps to support that.’

Finlay Group are the sole suppliers of Allu products in England and Wales and offer the full range of Allu stabilization, screener crusher and fine screening buckets for sale and hire, along with other specialist stabilization and dosing equipment.
