AI continue to invest in future industry leaders

AGGREGATE Industries are continuing to invest in the future stars of the construction and building materials world by providing bursaries for geology students at the University of Leicester for the second year running.

The Markfield-based company founded the bursary programme at the university last year to provide financial support for students as well as work placements with Aggregate Industries during the summer months.

Students are selected through an initial questionnaire, a one-day visit to the company’s head office and a real-life team project. This year a further 11 students will receive bursaries.

Kip Jeffery, senior lecturer in industrial rocks and minerals at the University of Leicester, commented: ‘We are delighted that Aggregate Industries are once again offering these bursaries to our students, which continues to build upon the range of existing research, technical and other links with the Geology Department at Leicester.

‘The programme allows our students to spend time at Aggregate Industries and undertake project work, gaining valuable practical experience and industry insight.’

Bill Bolsover, group chief executive of Aggregate Industries, added: ‘A geology degree is a good preparation for a career in construction and building products, but geologists who enter our business have the opportunity to reach all levels through the management training scheme.

‘The undergraduates who received our bursaries last year all have the hallmarks of future industry leaders and we look forward to working with this year’s students.’
