Devonshire Retail Park

Aggregates Industries supply coloured asphalts for major development scheme in Paignton

AGGREGATE Industries has recently supplied green, blue and buff-coloured asphalts to Devonshire Retail Park, as part of a major development in the Torbay area.

Situated on Devon’s south coast and as one of the region’s largest mixed-used development schemes, Devonshire Retail Park sits on the site of a former electronics factory in the seaside town of Paignton.

Having recently opened, the out-of-town shopping complex includes prominent retail outlets and five modern retail warehouses. It forms the hub of a new residential development, with more than 1,500 new homes built on the retail park and its surrounding site.

Under the project, Aggregate Industries were approached by Devon Contractors and Roadform Civil Engineering to supply asphalt for the surfacing of the customer car park – providing spaces for 339 cars, including 20 disabled spaces.

The brief emphasized the need for customer convenience and ease, and looked to create clearly distinguishable disabled bays in blue and electric vehicle bays in green, as well as buff-coloured entrance roads.

Aggregate Industries’ Express Asphalt division suggested the use of their innovative SuperColour range, a collection of distinctly coloured high-performance asphalts, which can be tailored to produce a bespoke solution in line with a project’s unique specification.

In August this year, the company provided 420 tonnes of SuperColour Ultra surface course in buff, green and blue, preceded by 1,200 tonnes of standard asphalt and 210 tonnes of aggregates.

The result was a striking car park where the disabled and electric vehicle bays were easy to spot, while the entrance roads provided a contemporary finish in keeping with the natural surroundings.

Katie McKeown, business manager - Express Asphalt at Aggregate Industries, said: ‘As one of the region’s most prominent development schemes, Devonshire Retail Park naturally requires a modern car park, complete with clearly marked disabled and charging bays for the rising number of electric vehicles now on the roads.

‘With a selection of high-performance asphalt blends at our disposal, including different colours and performance properties, we’re incredibly proud that our SuperColour range proved to be the ideal solution in meeting the unique requirements of this project.’

Chris Masters at Roadform Civil Engineering said: ‘I’d like to thank Aggregate Industries for the service the company provided throughout this project – from the meticulous planning and delivery of the materials, to the invaluable technical advice. I’m really impressed with the hard work that helped us to successfully complete the works on time.’
