Aggregate Industries strengthen asphalt strategy

"THE supply of high-performance asphalts to the West Midlands and Welsh Borders has been strengthened by recent strategic developments at Aggregate Industries UK Ltd. Central to the company’s progress in this region is the installation of a new asphalt plant at the company’s Haughmond Hill Quarry, near Shrewsbury."

"The quarry, which the company acquired in 2000, is one of just two West Midlands quarries that can provide greywacke stone with a PSV of 65. This meets the requirements needed for the production of high-performance, low-noise asphalts which are now the staple highway surfacing materials for Highways Agency and local authority roads."

"Situated close to the end of the M54, Haughmond Hill Quarry and the new asphalt plant are ideally linked to the motorway network and Aggregate Industries’ other high-PSV stone quarries at Cribarth in central Wales and Cwmnant Lleici near Swansea."

"Commenting on developments in the region, Aggregate Industries’ midlands operations manager, Dave Lewis, said: ‘We are now very well positioned to provide high-performance asphalts and highway surfacing services across the West Midlands and Welsh Borders region."

"‘Our high-PSV stone reserves support growing highways surfacing operations and this has been strengthened by the recent acquisition of surfacing contractors Kennedy Asphalt, who have traditionally carried out a large volume of road construction and maintenance work in the West Midlands.’"
