Aggregate Industries announce health, safety and environment shake-up

Aggregate Industries are splitting their health, safety and environment functions, creating two dedicated teams to implement major new company initiatives.

Miles Watkins has been appointed as UK environment adviser. He will lead a four-strong team who will implement the company's environmental policy. The team will monitor environmental management, energy efficiency and pollution across more than 150 sites. Part of their function involves steering the business towards ISO 14001 certification by the end of 2001.

Mike Belson, UK health and safety adviser, and his five-strong team are spearheading a new approach to health and safety. It involves a combination of health and safety management techniques with methods that place more emphasis on studying behavioural patterns to gain an understanding of why and how people react and respond at work.

Aggregate Industries are also looking to extend and adopt these management techniques and approaches to their operations outside the UK.
