Aggregate Industries acquire majority share in North-East recycling firm

HAVING already established themselves as a key player in recycling markets in the Midlands and the South, Aggregate Industries have now signalled their entry into the North-East with the purchase of a 51% share in J. Tonks (Transport) Ltd from The Esh Group –– a substantial north-east organization with interests in civil engineering, house building, landscaping, property development/renovation, and plant hire.

J. Tonks (Transport), a major supplier of skips and recycled materials in the region, will continue to trade under same name, managing skip-hire and waste-processing activities and sorting and processing suitable waste for sale as recycled fills, sub-bases and construction aggregates.

Bardon Recycling, who are responsible for Aggregate Industries’ recycling interests, will undertake the sale of recycled construction and demolition materials from the North-East operation.

Commenting on the deal, Geoff Parkin of Aggregate Industries UK said: ‘This is an excellent opportunity to enter the growing recycled aggregates business in the North-East with one of the region’s most dynamic and reputable companies.’

J. Tonks (Transport) are a substantial business in the region and currently have 10 lorries, 110 containers, 114 skips and 18 employees.
