Monthly bulletin: Yorkshire
Improving health and safety for everyone working in the mineral products sector is a top priority for all operators, producers and contractors. That means it is imperative that professionals are equipped with the knowledge, understanding and practical application of key regulations and standards that affect the sector in order to work towards the aim of zero harm.
In its role as the professional membership body for the mineral products sector, the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) and its network of regional branches organise regular events to share knowledge, network and socialise.
Yorkshire Branch Health & Safety Conference
The annual Yorkshire Branch Health & Safety Conference is a key event in the industry calendar. Organised by IQ Yorkshire branch, it recently took place at Holiday Inn Scotch Corner Hotel, Darlington.
With a well-planned agenda packed with presentations from industry professionals, the event was attended by more than 130 people. In addition to industry-focused subject matters and issues, one of the most engaging presentations came from Donna Mills-Hincks, Industrial Diagnostics Company. With an ageing workforce, the focus on wellness included a light-hearted discussion on the taboo subjects of prostate and testicular self-examinations.

Tim Harvey is the chairman of IQ Yorkshire. He says: “The health and safety day is always a popular event in our branch calendar. There is no room for complacency in our industry and it’s important that we stay up to date on subject matters relating to health and safety. It’s also an opportunity to discuss non-industry subjects, including the importance of wellness, which can affect our day-to-day working lives.”
