RWM 2016

First published in the September 2016 issue of Quarry Management

The UK’s annual event for resource efficiency and waste-management solutions

Taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, from 13-15 September, RWM 2016 is a showcase exhibition for the waste-management and recycling industries. Organized in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM), it is the only annual event of its kind covering all aspects of the waste hierarchy, attracting more than 500 exhibitors and in excess of 13,000 visitors.

This year’s exhibition will comprise five key zones – Energy from Waste, Handling & Logistics, Professional Services, Recycling & Reprocessing and Machinery & Equipment – to help amke navigation simple, efficient and visitor-friendly.

From mobile plant through to turnkey solutions, the Machinery & Equipment section of the show will give visitors an immediate sense of the size and breadth of the technologies designed for sorting and separation, size reduction and the movement of materials within materials recovery facilities (MRFs), waste-transfer stations and other recycling facilities.

The Recycling & Reprocessing area will be of interest to anyone wanting to move towards ‘zero waste to landfill’ status, a key aspect of many Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and essential in reducing costs and overheads. RWM visitors in this zone will discover the latest innovations and technological developments in the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment, wood, glass, metals and other materials.

As one of the fastest growing and most dynamic sectors in waste-management, the waste-to-energy landscape is constantly shifting. For those interested in learning more about anaerobic digestion, biomass and other renewable sources, the Energy from Waste zone will provide a key information hub and bring visitors up to speed with the innovative equipment and services on offer that deliver sustainable, all-year round sources of energy.

Among some of the more familiar companies signed up to exhibit at this year’s event are: Avery Weightronix; Baughans Barrel Screens; Case Construction; CDEnviro; Eriez; Groeneveld UK; John Moore Tractor Parts; Kingfisher Industrial; Liebherr; Marubeni Komatsu; Mogensen; Raymond Brown; Siltbuster Ltd; and Skako Vibration.

RWM 2016, once again, will be joined by three co-located exhibitions (13-14 September) – The Energy Event, The Renewables Event and The Water Event. In addition, as with previous shows, there will be an extensive seminar programme providing a wealth of information and key advice for sustainability professionals.

Some of the high-profile speakers confirmed at the event include: Marcus Gover, chief executive of WRAP; Joan Marc Simon, director of Zero Waste Europe; Ray Georgeson, chief executive of Resource Association; Stuart Hayward-Higham, technical development director for SUEZ; Nina Skorupska, chief executive of Renewable Energy Association; and Neil Grundon, deputy chairman of Grundon Waste Management.

Whether it is getting an insight into the spectrum of technologies and applications available, championing sector development, seeking investment opportunities or sharing best practice, RWM 2016 continues to be a major UK leading showcase event for waste-management solutions.
