Rising star shortlisted in top 10 Future Leaders category at prestigious 2022 Ethnicity Awards

RISING star Shahid Zaman, from Tarmac, has been shortlisted in the top 10 Future Leaders category at the prestigious 2022 Ethnicity Awards.

Each year, the Ethnicity Awards celebrate Black, Asian, and ethnic minority people who make a positive impact on diversity in the public eye, in politics, and in the workplace. In 2021, entrants received over 50,000 votes across all categories, demonstrating the importance of the awards in pushing the ethnicity agenda.

Starting with Tarmac less than two years ago, where he was then working as an apprentice operative at Tarmac’s Birmingham asphalt plant, in Washwood Heath, Mr Zaman (pictured) quickly secured the role of supervisor.

‘I’m over the moon to have been nominated for this award. It means so much and makes all the hard work over the last few years one hundred per cent worth it,’ he said. ‘The other nine candidates and their experience is unbelievable, and I can’t quite believe I’m in the same category.

‘I can’t thank my managers enough. The support and guidance I’ve had during my time at Tarmac so far is unmatched. I have big plans for the future, and this really is just the beginning.’

Louise Houston, head of inclusion and diversity at Tarmac, said: ‘We’re extremely proud of Shahid for being nominated in the top 10 Future Leaders category – what an incredible achievement. Shahid has always been a standout candidate who will go leaps and bounds to show his dedication to succeed and landing his promotion in record time really does say it all.

‘Shahid has not only come a long way professionally but personally too. From carrying out a custodial sentence in his past, to ensuring construction materials are supplied to local and regional infrastructure projects, we couldn’t be more pleased for him. He deserves this nomination and the recognition that comes with it. We are all looking forward to seeing what else Shahid has up his sleeve in years to come.’

The Ethnicity Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 27 October at the Marriott Hotel, London.
