Volvo quartet for Hather Plant Hire

Volvo A25F articulated haulers

Reliability and longevity of earlier models leads to purchase of four new A25F haulers

HATHER Plant Hire Ltd, based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, have bought four new Volvo A25F articulated haulers for their extensive plant fleet, thanks in part to the reliability of C- and D-series trucks purchased over the last decade.

The four new haulers are incremental to a fleet of some 450 items of mobile plant in the Hather Plant Hire arsenal, including around 30 existing Volvo trucks.

‘We recognize the Volvo articulated hauler has one of the highest residual values on the market and offers good performance with impressive longevity,’ commented managing director Gary Hather. ‘For example, we have an A25C that’s clocked up 35,000 hours and is still going strong. Coupled to that, the Volvo trucks find favour with both our own operators and our customers’ operators.’

The A25F hauler from Volvo meets the requirements of Stage IIIB emissions legislation, being powered by an electronically controlled, six-cylinder, turbocharged, 235hp Volvo V-ACT diesel engine. This features high torque at low engine speeds, resulting in good fuel efficiency, high performance, quicker engine response and longer service life.

Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is designed to exactly match the Volvo drivetrain, ensuring the best use of power and torque, even in tough working conditions. It is matched to a torque converter with built in lock-up function and fitted with a fully automatic fast adaptive transmission. The rest of the Volvo designed and built powertrain has been reinforced to cope with the higher torque output of the engine.

With a carrying capacity of 24 tonnes and heaped capacity of 15 cubic metres, the Volvo A25F has a maximum speed of 53km/h. The trucks are also fitted with Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system as standard, which allows remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions (eg location, fuel consumption, service reminders etc). This will prove beneficial for Hather Plant Hire as the trucks could be deployed on short-, mid- or long-term hires over a large geographical area.

Hather Plant Hire Ltd, a family run business founded by managing director Gary Hather in 1982, are strategically located just off the M1 close to Rotherham and employ approximately 140 personnel in operated and non-operated plant hire.
