Vision Techniques help prevent falls from vehicles

New range of products eliminates the need for manual cleaning of rear-view camera systems

WITH the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) taking action to prevent workers falling from quarry vehicles, companies are being warned to prohibit workers from climbing on to their vehicles to clean rear-view cameras – a major cause of such falls.

Although rear-view cameras help drivers negotiate their way around objects and can bring substantial safety and legal benefits, when the cameras become dirty after exposure to the elements, operatives often climb on to the vehicle to clean them, putting themselves at risk of potentially serious falls.

To help avoid this situation, Vision Techniques have created a variety of innovative camera products to help eliminate accidents and potential litigation costs. These new products include rear-view cameras specifically designed to protect against dirt, thereby eliminating the need for manual cleaning.

For example, Vision Techniques’ shutter camera clears away dirt and protects the lens at the push of a button, while the company’s wiper camera and jet wash system serve a similar purpose.

Steve Perrin of Vision Techniques said: ‘The jet wash and wiper camera is a cost-efficient solution to keep the reversing camera clean. The system prevents the age-old problem of operatives climbing on the rave plate or lifters to reach the reversing camera in its elevated location. Both the jet wash and wiper cameras can be retrofitted on any type of quarry vehicle.’
