TWS mark key UK distributor milestone

DUO (Europe) plc

Terex Washing Systems celebrate 35th anniversary of Coventry-based DUO (Europe) plc

ONE of Terex Washing Systems’ key UK distributors is celebrating 35 years in the aggregate processing industry. Alex Moss, managing director of Coventry-based DUO (Europe) plc, has a history in the industry dating back to 1981 when Powerscreen Washing Systems, independent dealers in England and Wales for Powerscreen aggregate washing equipment, were founded.

Having established themselves as successful Powerscreen dealers, in 2005 Powerscreen Washing Systems rebranded as DUO (Europe) plc and now consist of three main business areas: equipment sales, contract processing and manufacturing.

The manufacturing element was added in 2004 through the acquisition of Somerset-based LJH Group. Established in 1964 as a family-owned specialist engineering company, today LJH offer a complete package, from initial design and manufacture to installation and full project support, to the bulk handling industries.

From their origins as a Powerscreen dealer, DUO are now a distributor for several market-leading European and US equipment manufacturers, and in recent years the DUO brand has expanded beyond the UK into Trinidad and Tobago, and most recently Africa.

Alex Moss commented: ‘When the world stopped turning back in 2009, we looked at other opportunities in countries such as Kenya and Ghana, where our knowledge of equipment and applications soon landed us considerable business. This year marks our tenth year in Africa, a region in which we have successfully sold significant numbers of items of equipment from our product portfolio.’

Today, the DUO business is built around three Terex brands – Terex Washing Systems (TWS), Terex Minerals Processing Systems (MPS), and Powerscreen. The modular nature of the ranges on offer has proved very successful in the UK market, with numerous installations for blue chip companies such as CEMEX, Hanson, CRH and Lafarge.

Mr Moss added: ‘The recycling market in the UK is also hugely important to us – we have numerous installations working very hard for NRS, Rob Collard, Walsh and many others.

‘Also, our in-house contracting division, DMP (DUO Minerals Processing), provides equipment on a cost-per-tonne/basis, which appeals to many companies in terms of cash flow, manpower and on-site expertise.’

The DMP division recently achieved a major processing landmark on the Aberdeen by-pass scheme, with a fleet of Terex Powerscreen crushing and screening machines working at six different locations along the length of the 58km project having processed 4 million tonnes of granite since the operation commenced in June 2015.
