Thousands expected to take part in JCB Mud Run

JCB Mud Run

JCB hoping to raise record-breaking amount for the NSPCC with their third annual Mud Run event

A RECORD-breaking 1,600 people have already signed up for the JCB Mud Run which returns this summer as the company continues its support of the NSPCC.

The Mud Run – which began in 2012 – will take place on Saturday 5 July over a specially designed five-mile course littered with more than 20 obstacles on land near JCB’s World Headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire.

The organizers are confident that more than 2,000 people will take part, and say they are still dreaming up a range of tricky tasks that participants will face.

A huge mudslide and a 100ft underground tunnel are already confirmed, as well as monkey bars, swings and a whole host more.

Last year’s event attracted around 1,000 entrants and raised £40,276 for the NSPCC.

JCB worldwide marketing director Matt McClurg said: ‘This year’s Mud Run is set to be even muddier, trickier and enjoyable than the previous two. The NSPCC is a fantastic cause, and we’re hoping to raise a record-breaking total for them.’

Mud runners, who must be aged 16 or over, will be bussed to the course where they will find bag storage and washing facilities. Spectators are welcome, and there will be a mini mud run for children.

JCB marketing manager Andy Henderson, who has taken part in the previous two Mud Run events, said: ‘It’s harder than you expect, muddier than you expect, but much more fun than you expect, too.’

Entry fees are £45 for individuals or £40 per team member (four people per team). From 1 June the fees rise to £55 for an individual or £50 per team member. The closing date for registrations is Friday 4 July.
