Thompsons to open new factory in Scotland

Thompsons to build factory in Scotland

Croydon-based firm extending production capabilities and aftermarket support north of the border

THOMPSONS, one of the UK’s leading tipper bodybuilders, are to invest in a new factory in Scotland, with a number of sites currently being considered in the Central Belt area between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Once completed, the facility will provide Scottish tipper operators with local bodywork production, improved customer services and aftermarket support.

Since 2001, Thompsons have developed into a national tipper bodybuilder business: the firm has three factories in Croydon; another three facilities in Blackburn; and owns Dover-based Charlton. With the new site in Scotland, Thompson will further strengthen their national coverage.

Simon Shields, director of Thompsons, said: ‘Moving into Scotland is the final stage of Thompsons’ market development. Over the last couple of years, we have sold more tipper bodies than ever north of the border, so we know how well our products are being received and the company’s real potential in this market.

‘Having a Thompsons factory in Scotland will benefit all parties very considerably, not least in the areas of improving direct customer contact, reducing delivery times and providing the highest-possible standard of after-sales support.’

To help operate the new factory, Thompsons are looking to create new local employment opportunities by recruiting staff with proven expertise in the areas of bodywork production, sales, service and parts support, administration and management.
