Teco Westinghouse supply quarry project

Motors and drives from Teco Westinghouse have been chosen to operate the crushers at Tilcon Northern's major new quarry plant development at Linton, near Skipton, North Yorkshire. Up to 2 million tonnes of limestone a year will be processed when it comes into operation later this year.

Teco Westinghouse have been awarded the contract to supply the motors and drives which will operate the secondary and tertiary crushers by the main contractors, Fairport Engineering. The contract includes the supply, testing and commissioning of motors and drives, plus operator training and on-going servicing. When the plant is operational a 24h service helpline will also be provided.

A 2,000kVA Onan 11kV to 690V stepdown/phase shift transformer with integral primary ring-main unit will be supplied, together with secondary MCCBs, 12-pulse variable-speed Optim drives rated at 450kW and 1,000kW, and six-pole 690V cage induction motors with inverter-rated insulation systems. The drives and motors are co-ordinated to the crusher torque characteristics and rated to handle short-term crusher overloads.
