Tarmac secure £25 million asphalt contract

AMEY have awarded a contract worth £25 million to Tarmac to maintain and improve Birmingham’s highways infrastructure network, which includes 2,500km of roads, around 100,000 street lights and over 850 highway structures and bridges across the city.

The deal is aimed at delivering innovation and efficiency savings on highways schemes in the region, and builds on Tarmac’s existing contracts in the Midlands, with Leicestershire Country Council and Walsall Council.  

As well as supplying asphalt, the company’s National Contracting division will carry out road repairs, maintenance and resurfacing work in the first year of the deal The areas covered will include Edgbaston, Selly Oak, Northfield, Perry Barr, Ladywood and parts of the strategic network in west Birmingham.
