Tarmac present Norfolk CC with gold award

County Council receives prestigious local award for its outstanding support for Norwich for Jobs project

TARMAC have presented Norfolk County Council with a gold award for its outstanding support of the Norwich for Jobs project – a voluntary scheme that encourages local employers to help reduce the number of young unemployed people across the city by supporting them with apprenticeships, skills development, work placements and practical advice.

The project operates a business accreditation scheme, which awards bronze, silver and gold standards according to the amount of support provided. As both a previous winner of the regional award and a member of the scheme’s steering group, Tarmac said they were privileged to help hand out this year’s honours.

Justin Harris (far right of photo), performance and business manager at Tarmac and member of the Norwich for Jobs steering group, presented the gold award to Norfolk County Council. He said: ‘We’d like to offer our congratulations to everyone at Norfolk County Council involved in this achievement and encourage other organizations and businesses across the county to get involved.

‘Tarmac have been proud and active supporters of Norwich for Jobs for more than four years. It’s an initiative which not only develops the skills and experiences of young people and those needing assistance to overcome barriers to employment, but also offers significant benefits to employee volunteers who commit their time and energy to support members of the local community.’

Norfolk County Council received the prestigious gold accreditation for helping those referred to them via Norwich for Jobs in numerous different ways, including arranging informal meetings with council staff for sharing advice, providing CV support, offering work experience, and signposting young people to other employment opportunities across the local area.

Councillor Keith Kiddie (far left), chair of Norfolk County Council’s Business and Property Committee, said: ‘As a public service provider and a large local employer, we want to do all we can to help people gain the skills they need to secure long-term employment that is right for them. We’re delighted to be recognized for our efforts with this gold award and we hope to continue our support of the local community in this way.’
