Tarmac commit to supply chain transparency

DEMONSTRATING their strong commitment to providing greater supply chain transparency, Tarmac have been awarded Achilles BuldingConfidence accreditation, which validates corporate health and safety and environmental claims.

The quarry operator has also asked key suppliers to gain the BuildingConfidence accreditation to support its drive to raise industry standards and reduce supply chain risk. Suppliers, including Nynas, Hydrex and Go Plant, have already secured the accreditation and a further 50 companies are currently taking steps to achieve the award.

Commenting on the BuildingConfidence scheme, Adrian Cook, executive director of procurement at Tarmac, said: ‘Until now, a lack of independent accreditation has meant that the construction industry has had to rely too much on anecdotal information from sales teams, telling them how good their health and safety, environmental and CSR track record is.

‘Consequently, the standards and policies that some companies claim to have may not always stack up when placed under scrutiny. BuildingConfidence provides robust third party auditing of claims and a greater assurance to buyers and suppliers that the supply chain is responsible, competent and legally compliant. As a single, cross-industry accreditation, it also has real benefits to the tendering process by eliminating the time and cost for Tarmac and our suppliers to answer the same questions all over again.’

In addition to the recent accreditation, Tarmac are the first in the sector to become a member of the BuildingConfidence governing council.
