Tarmac achieve ‘Ultra Site’ status

Tarmac

Company celebrates industry first with Ultra Site recognition under Considerate Constructors Scheme

A PARTNERSHIP between Tarmac and Nottinghamshire County Council has become the first highways maintenance contract in the UK to achieve Ultra Site status under the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Achieving Ultra Site status requires registered contractors and their supply chains to demonstrate industry-leading best practice and collaboration among clients, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. An Ultra Site accreditation is the highest level of attainment within the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Ultra Sites are currently being piloted by a number of leading contractors who are assisting the scheme with its development, in readiness for an official launch planned during 2017. The pilot group is also developing acceptance criteria, which will need to be met in order for a site to be considered as an Ultra Site.

Paul Fleetham, managing director of Tarmac Contracting, said: ‘I’m extremely pleased and very proud that the highways maintenance contract, in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, has achieved Ultra Site status.

‘It’s great to get independent recognition of our ongoing commitment to collaborative working, and working across our supply chain to consistently improve health and safety standards and engagement with local communities. This achievement reflects our longstanding partnership with the Council and our ability to deliver the highest levels of best practice.’

Edward Hardy, chief executive of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, added: ‘Ultra Sites are the next level of achieving even greater standards and collaboration across the entire industry, and we are delighted to have Tarmac on board to form an important part of the Ultra Sites pilot.

‘Tarmac’s highways maintenance partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council is clearly demonstrating how to take considerate construction to the next level when it comes to caring for the community, the workforce and the environment.’

Tarmac are a longstanding associate member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme and their work in Nottinghamshire has been registered under the Scheme for the last eight years. The company delivers highway maintenance and improvement works for the County Council, including road resurfacing, gully clearing, street cleaning, road marking and earthworks.
