Taking control with Penny + Giles

Sensor manufacturer expands JC6000 joystick controller range with heavy-duty option.

PENNY + Giles, manufacturers of high-precision sensing technology and control hardware, have added a new heavy-duty, single-axis joystick controller to their JC6000 range.

According to the company, the new product is in response to customer feedback and requests for a ‘higher-strength, return-to-centre joystick’ for use in wheel loaders and heavy plant machinery where high ‘across-axis’ loads can be an issue.

The improved strength of the new heavy-duty JC6000 has been achieved by redesigning the body casting, which the company claims has increased across-axis fatigue life by a factor of five. The joystick controller also uses a new gaiter designed specifically to accommodate the increased strength of the body casting.

To ensure customers benefit from the improved fatigue performance, the heavy-duty version replaces the existing single-axis, spring-return joystick controllers for new applications, as both options share the same panel-mounting detail.

Commenting on support for existing customers, Tom Quinly, president of Curtiss-Wright Controls (who own Penny + Giles), said: ‘Joystick controllers manufactured with the standard-strength mechanism will remain in production to support our customers’ existing systems and spares requirements.

‘The new heavy-duty joystick controller is available with potentiometer tracks or Hall-effect sensors, CAN (J1939) and CAN-extended input interfaces and is designed to share all the standard JC6000 handles and grips.’

Other notable joystick controllers within the JC6000 range include: single-axis friction-hold versions for construction equipment requiring high manoeuvrability; and CAN-bus output options, allowing OEMs to improve control systems in off-road vehicles.
