SMR (UK) shortlisted for ‘TechFest’ Awards

Soil stabilization specialists named in three categories including Supplier of the Year and Innovation of the Year

SMR (UK) – an innovative ground engineering specialist that helps organizations cost-effectively stabilize excavated spoil using specially formulated re-instatement materials – have been shortlisted as a finalist in three of the categories at the Festival of Innovation and Technology ‘TechFest’ Awards, with the winners scheduled to be announced in September 2017.

The awards, which are run in conjunction with the Institution of Civil Engineers, are designed to showcase the best technology/innovations driving civil engineering forward – and SMR have been designated a finalist in the Supplier of the Year, Innovation of the Year (SMART materials) and Best Use of Technology (carbon reduction) categories.

‘We were absolutely delighted to have been named a finalist in each of the three TechFest categories that we entered,’ said Andy Bareham, technical support manager for SMR (UK). ‘Our structural material for reinstatement (SMR) product is rapidly becoming the solution of choice for many in the construction and civil engineering sectors. Not only does it divert millions of tonnes of waste spoil material from landfill, but it also delivers massive cost savings over traditional reinstatement processes, as well as reducing the carbon footprint of groundwork projects.’

He continued: ‘SMR is a real innovative game changer, which is what the awards were designed to identify and promote. Being named finalists in three categories of these prestigious awards was totally unexpected and will only help raise awareness as we eagerly await the final announcements on the awards in September.’

SMR is considered to be one of today’s single most important SMART materials, making significant and innovative changes to the civil engineering industry – reducing cost, waste, a dependency on virgin aggregates and the need for landfill, while significantly helping to reduce the carbon footprints on all projects.

In addition to manufacturing SMR reinstatement products, SMR (UK) are significantly increasing the number of locations around the UK, where the technology used to blend the SMR additive with excavated spoil is available. The company is continuously building a strong national network of recycling ‘Hub’ partners to provide its customers with ready-mixed and recycled sub-base from the excavated spoil, as well as the ability to relocate the process to a site, further reducing transport movements, carbon footprint, time and costs.
