Sam Marles Plant Hire add more Volvo machines

Volvo compact excavator

Exeter-based company stays loyal to Volvo CE brand with the purchase of two new compact excavators

SAM Marles Plant Hire have added a new Volvo ECR25D zero-swing excavator and ECR88D reduced-swing excavator to their growing fleet of machinery. The latest purchase of machines follows Sam Marles’ previous order for Volvo equipment with local dealers Plant & Engineering Services two years ago.

‘The majority of our work is contracting to Western Power Distribution which means we have to be ready to react to demand 24 hours a day, seven days a week and that’s just not possible unless you have good machine reliability and sound backup from the local dealer,’ explained company owner Sam Marles. ‘I’ve been impressed with the support from Plant & Engineering Services which helped me to choose the Volvo brand once again.’

The new ECR25D model and larger 8.8 tonne ECR88D reduced-swing excavator. replaces the company’s two year-old ECR28 unit.

‘To meet the requirements of our diverse activities, the ECR25D has had optional hose rupture valves fitted to both the boom and dipper arm cylinders for handling electricity poles, while the ECR88D has been equipped with an Engcon tiltrotator to make the machine highly productive and flexible on site,’ said Mr Marles.

Powered by a Volvo 1.1-litre low emission engine (21hp), the ECR25D zero-swing excavator has an operating weight of 2.5 tonnes and, depending on the choice of dipper arm, it offers a maximum reach of up to 4.77m and a digging depth of 2.96m.

The ECR88D model is powered by a Tier IIIB Volvo 2.6-litre engine (56hp) and features a closed centre load sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times and smooth control. The machine offers a generous horizontal reach of 7.3m and a lift capacity of 960kg at full reach across its carriage.
