Safety in sight

Managing the risks of reversing plant and vehicles has become a key priority for quarry operators to improve safety on site.

In recent years, the market has seen a huge growth in reversing aids, from convex mirrors and reversing alarms to vehicle CCTV. Blackburn-based Vision Techniques have recently come up with a cost-effective, innovative solution – a rear-view mirror monitor that acts as both a reversing camera system and rear-view mirror.

Designed to prevent vehicle-reversing accidents, the 4.2in Mirror Monitor system includes an optional extra ‘bulletcamera’ – a 2in long camera suitable for small spaces. The camera/mirror system also changes so it looks like an ordinary rear-view mirror. As a result, the risk of it being stolen by opportunist thieves is reduced.

Steve Perrin, manager at Vision Techniques, said: ‘Reversing camera systems, such as the Mirror Monitor, significantly reduce accidents in larger vehicles. Our system not only improves vehicle and pedestrian safety, but will also reduce theft and save space.’
