HCME to present pioneering safety assist technology on Zaxis-7 excavator at Intermat 2024

HITACHI Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) will be displaying their ZX225USLC-7 medium-sized excavator during this year’s Intermat exhibition. One of the machine’s standout features is the Xwatch Leica Geosystems 3D Avoidance System which was collaboratively fitted at HCME’s Amsterdam factory in the Netherlands.

The pioneering safety solution is designed to further enhance safety and efficiency on site, providing additional protection for personnel, infrastructure, and the working environment.

The safety assist system, for example, automatically adjusts the excavator’s movements (height, depth, slew) near avoidance zones, using proportional hydraulic control to prevent accidents. The technology is also equipped with ‘Virtual Wall’ functionality (acts as a protective barrier around the machine) and environmental protection, which disables machinery movement in sensitive areas, safeguarding environmentally critical zones.

‘By offering solutions such as these to our customers, we can combine the unrivalled control, precision, and reliability of Hitachi excavators with the accuracy of 3D technology – helping to improve safety and efficiency on site further,’ commented Bill Drougkas, HCME manager product management and solution linkage.

With operator safety in mind, the Hitachi ZX225USLC-7 provides a superior view of the job site, thanks to a 270° bird’s-eye view from the aerial angle camera system. Visibility is further improved due to the sash bar's lowering and the central pillar's relocation.

Hitachi say owners will be able to increase their profits due to the impressive fuel economy (up to 11% less fuel consumption compared with the previous model) and efficiency of the ZX225USLC-7.

The Zaxis-7 excavator can be used on a wide range of projects. Offering options such as mono and two-piece boom configurations, along with the long (LC) undercarriage for stability and the short tail design for enhanced manoeuvrability in confined job sites, this machine ensures optimal performance across various applications.

‘We look forward to exhibiting the ZX225USLC-7 medium excavator at Intermat this year, with the additional collision avoidance system developed by Xwatch and Leica Geosystems,’ said Mr Drougkas. ‘We are proud to collaborate with other industry leaders to empower owners and operators to optimize on-site performance.’
