Roltech complete delicate dockside installation

Roltech installation at Liverpool Bulk Terminal

Roltech Engineering have installed a high-volume bulk-handling system as part of the construction of a new biomass store at Liverpool Bulk Terminal (LBT).

Working for client E.ON Climate and Renewables UK Biomass Ltd, the main contractors, Hargreaves Industrial Services plc, were employed to construct a 60,000-tonne wood pellet import and storage facility, including conveyors and transfer stations.

Hargreaves engaged Roltech as one of the main structural and mechanical installation contractors, whose principal task was the manufacture, supply and installation of the reception hopper, all within a strict construction programme.

Timescales were tight, but even more challenging were the site erection issues, said Andy Ridge, project engineer for Roltech: ‘We were working in a live dock side area. This proved quite challenging in that we had to plan our works meticulously so as not to disrupt the dockside operations.’

Srinivas Ramulu, E.ON’s site manager and civil construction manager on the LBT biomass project, praised Roltech’s professionalism: ‘Their attitude towards safety is very good, which is evidenced in the quality of their risk assessments, method statements and lifting plans. Their knowledge and compliance with current legislation, codes of practice and standards is excellent.’
