01 May 2001 - 02:00"THE Quarry Products Association has appointed a non-executive chairman to the Association for the first time ever. The new appointee is Sir Tim Chessells, a former partner with Arthur Young who has had wide-ranging experience as chairman of a number of high-profile authorities and associations."
"As chairman of the QPA he will be responsible for chairing the Association’s two key management committees, for overseeing the Association’s finances and, along with QPA director general Simon van der Byl and senior industry personnel, for representing the industry in its dealings with government."
"Commenting on his new three-year appointment, Sir Tim said: ‘I know that the industry has faced, and is still facing, some difficult challenges. However, the way in which QPA members have responded to these challenges, for example by implementing excellent environmental standards or campaigning robustly against the deeply flawed aggregates tax, makes me feel extremely positive about helping to meet some of these future challenges head on.’"
"The appointment of Sir Tim Chessells reflects the decision by senior industry personnel to establish a combination of wide business experience, member company neutrality, continuity and availability in its chairmanship position, which was previously fulfilled on a rotational annual basis by key industry leaders."
