One Call Hire invest in JCB telehandlers

JCB 540-170 telehandler

London-based plant-hire company purchases 90 JCB Loadall machines in deal worth £5 million

LONDON-based plant-hire specialists One Call Hire have bought 90 fuel-saving JCB Loadall telehandlers in a deal worth £5 million. The investment includes JCB 535-95, 540-140 and 540-170 models which join a further 90 existing JCB telehandlers in the One Call Hire fleet.

The company currently provides equipment to key areas of development in London, including Stratford, Hackney, Westminster and Lewisham, and supports contractors on major projects including Crossrail where the majority of the new JCB models will be deployed.

One Call Hire’s commercial & sales director, Tom Gleeson, commented: ‘We chose JCB for this major telehandler investment due to the reliability of the products, the excellent relationship with our dealer Greenshields JCB, and the value of the JCB brand among our customer base.

‘We also recognize the importance of sustainability and the environment, so fuel and emissions reductions are of huge significance for us on key inner city sites. Equally crucial are the cost savings we can provide for our customers by running fuel-efficient equipment.

‘With the Ecomax engine, JCB Loadall telehandlers are excellent on fuel consumption. Each machine can save our customers as much £450 a year in fuel, which is a reduction of 1,668kg of CO2. Over a year this equates to a reduction of 112,000kg of CO2 or nearly £30,000 across these new additions to the fleet.

‘Many of the JCB machines are working on the Crossrail network, which remains a major project for us. Our supply of machines here continues to be strong and with all our new machines being Crossrail compliant, we are ready for any further demand.’

Developed to meet the EU Stage IIIB/US Tier 4 Interim emissions standards, the JCB Ecomax engines incorporated across the One Call Hire models produce between 6% and 15% more torque and between 5% and 10% more power at low revs than the previous Tier 3 engine. This means that operators get the same performance but with increased efficiency and improved fuel consumption.

With more than 40 years’ industry experience and access to 23 nationwide depots, One Call hire are one of the UK’s leading plant-hire companies. They offer in excess of 3,000 machines including: excavators up to 50 tonnes, self-propelled rollers, dozers, heavy-lift telehandlers and dumpers.

The company has committed £25.25 million on new plant and machinery to date for the 2014 period. This equates to a total spend of more than £60 million over the last two years. Across the fleet, the average age of each machine is less than 12 months.
