New washing barrel for Darrington Quarries

Wileman Engineers Ltd replace 30-year-old scrubber barrel at Darrington Quarries’ Cridling Stubbs site

WILEMAN Engineers Ltd have successfully installed a replacement scrubber barrel at Darrington Quarries’ Cridling Stubbs site in West Yorkshire.

The original 25M45 barrel (2.5m in diameter x 4.5m in length) was installed by Wileman in 1984 to handle 150 tonnes/h of –100mm limestone, but after 30 years and an estimated 9 million tonnes throughput, the management decided it was time to replace the tired old drum.

Wileman’s expertise in the installation work combined with the assistance of the Darrington Quarries maintenance staff ensured that the changeover was completed over the August Bank Holiday weekend with little or no loss in production.

The original running gear and support frame were retained and continue to work with the new barrel, which not only cleans and scrubs the ‘all in’ limestone feed, but also removes fines through its perforated feed and discharge end modules.

Wileman Engineers Ltd, who have been designing and installing washing barrels for 50 years, say they continue to be the leading supplier of washing barrels in the UK.
