New Volvo ADT for Titsey

Volvo A35G articulated dumptruck

Company replaces Volvo A25C articulated dumptruck with newer Stage IV-compliant A35G model

AFTER 14 years of relatively trouble-free service, Titsey Estate Co. have replaced their Volvo A25C ADT with the much larger capacity A35G articulated hauler.

The old Volvo machine had clocked up 14,500h of service at Titsey’s Moorhouse sand pit site in Kent, hauling high-quality soft sand to a washing plant. However, the length of the haul and size of the ADT began to impinge on production with the company having to hire additional trucks, on occasions, to meet demand.

‘It was clear we needed to increase the size of the hauler and avoid the additional cost of having to hire in extra trucks,’ commented site manager Terry Rolfe. ‘We sought competitive quotes for the replacement truck but the decision to opt for another Volvo was down to the good service we’ve experienced with the A25C dumptruck.’

Meeting the requirements of Stage IV emissions legislation, the Volvo A35G is powered by a 327kW, electronically controlled, six-cylinder, turbocharged Volvo V-ACT engine which delivers high torque at low engine speeds, resulting in good fuel efficiency, high performance, quicker engine response and reduced wear/longer service life.

Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is designed to exactly match the equipment manufacturer’s drivetrain, ensuring the best use of power and torque, even in tough working conditions. It is matched to a torque converter with built in lock-up function and fitted with a fully automatic fast adaptive transmission.

With a carrying capacity of 33.5 tonnes, a heaped capacity of 20.5 cubic metres with the optional cantilever tailgate fitted, the A35G ADT has already demonstrated a significant improvement in production at the Moorhouse pit.

‘Within a week of the new A35G arriving and taking over we saw an immediate improvement in keeping the plant fully deployed with the additional capacity for storing reserve stock at the wash area,’ said Mr Rolfe. ‘The new articulated hauler will be expected to transport up to 160,000 tonnes of material around the site annually.’

The hauler is fitted with Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system as standard, allowing remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions (location, fuel consumption, service reminders etc) to help optimize customer operations.
