New range of safety footwear

Honeywell's (i)XTREM line of safety footwear

Honeywell launch the (i)XTREM range with (i)NTELLIGENT wear-control system

HONEYWELL have launched a new line of safety footwear – the (i)XTREM – developed especially to protect workers in the utility, waste-management, chemical and heavy-industry sectors against the specific environmental and physical hazards they face while doing their jobs.

‘People working in harsh environments face a wide range of hazards but have some very specific needs too,’ said Barbara Lehnert-Bauckhage, EMEAI regional product general manager of footwear for Honeywell Safety Products.

‘After working with and listening to our customers, including a globally recognized waste-management company, we designed, tested and developed the (i)XTREM range to provide a high-performance solution to meet these requirements, which include strong abrasion resistance, protection against ankle injuries, comfort in cold environments and simple identification of when the footwear should be replaced in order to stay safe.’

Key to the (i)XTREM range is a newly developed sole system, consisting of a PU midsole and nitrile outsole that provide the wearer with excellent slip, abrasion and cut resistance in addition to short-term heat resistance up to 300°C. As a result, the footwear lasts much longer and does not need to be replaced as regularly.

Furthermore, the unique design of the (i)NTELLIGENT wear-control system built into the sole unit uses coloured wear indicators to show when the tread performance is nearing the end of its life. This allows both workers and safety managers to easily check whether the footwear is still providing adequate protection and replace it in a timely manner to reduce the risk of slip-related accidents as a result of excess wear.

In addition to the sole unit, an (i)NTEGRATED ankle-protection system protects the bone and improves stability in order to help prevent ankle sprains and other injuries.

For workers who are outside throughout the year, two of the styles have been developed in summer and winter versions – the Collect and the Collect Ice. These include a Coolmax lining to provide high performance and comfort in extreme environments and conditions. The Collect Ice is also equipped with (i)NTELLIGENT cold insulation to offer workers more comfort during the winter season.

Other features across the products in the range include the use of water-resistant full-grain leather, a 200-Joule metal-free toecap, breathable 3D linings, and an ergonomic collar and padded tongue for optimum comfort. The new (i)XTREM range, which is available in UK sizes 4 to 14, is manufactured to EN ISO 20345:2011, S3 HRO HI CI SRC.
