New Doosan machines for German quarry operator

Doosan DL420-5 wheel loader

Manfred Boer KG take delivery of two DL420-5 wheel loaders for sand and gravel operation

AS part of their fleet expansion, Manfred Boer have invested in two new Doosan DL420-5 wheel loaders, to support the company’s sand and gravel quarry operation in Dorsten, Germany.

The DL420-5 models – the first Doosan branded machines to be put into operation by Manfred Boer – join an existing mixed fleet of loading shovels, dumptrucks, crushers and screeners currently extracting high-quality sand and gravel products, and working 10h a day in Dorsten.

‘We spoke with Max Gutmann of Kraemer, the Doosan dealers based in Delbrück, and he provided a demonstration machine to test out in the quarry,’ said René Boer, head of the Dorsten facility. ‘The performance of the DL420-5 was very convincing, so we ordered two new Doosan models in exactly the same configuration as the test machine.’

During the testing period, five wheel loader drivers at Manfred Boer worked intensively with the demonstration machine. And following evaluation, the operators unanimously agreed that the DL420-5 was the right machine for use at the quarry.

According to Doosan, the DL420-5 model represents a leap forward in wheel loader design. The machine features the company’s latest external styling, a new high comfort cab, smooth and responsive hydraulics, a ZF powertrain, axle cooling and auxiliary hydraulic connections.

Most of these features are standard on the new DL-5 wheel loaders and have been developed to optimize fuel. On the DL420-5 and the larger DL-5 models, for example, the engine auto idle system reduces fuel costs by lowering the idle level from 950 to 750 rev/min when the operator does not give any input to the steering wheel, arm and bucket for more than 10 seconds. This is particular convenient for applications where there is a lot of waiting time such as truck loading.

With a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic metres, the DL420-5 wheel loader is powered by a six-cylinder Scania DC13 engine that produces 345hp at 1,800 rev/min.  Providing up to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption, the Scania engine meets Stage IV emission regulations (without the need of a diesel particulate filter) through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies.
