New Cat machines for Blackwood Plant Hire

Cat excavators

Scottish plant hire firm invests in 38 new Caterpillar excavators due to continued growth

BLACKWOOD Plant Hire, one of Scotland’s biggest plant hire firms, have purchased 38 new Cat excavators. The machines, which were supplied by Finning, were delivered in the final quarter of 2014 due to the plant hire firm’s sustained growth throughout the year.

Supplying to key contractors, including Land Engineering Ltd., Raynesway, Carillion Civil Engineering, Scottish Water and Network Rail, Blackwood say they are looking forward to continuing the upward curve in 2015. The Kilmarnock-based company has also expanded operations into England, with a large and diverse customer base across the north of the country.

This diversity is reflected in the range of excavator models purchased by Blackwood, ranging from mini-excavators for small construction projects to large excavators suitable for large-scale aggregates contracts. Some of the new machines in the deal include: 16 Cat 308Es; seven Cat 312Es; 13 Cat 320ELs; and two Cat 329EL units. The plant hire firm has also benefitted from Finning’s Used Equipment Solutions service by acquiring two used Cat 312ELs.

Paul McCormack, sales director at Blackwood Plant Hire, commented: ‘Customer requests for Caterpillar machinery, along with growth in demand within the industry, were the main instigators for us to make this large-scale investment with Finning. The machines are great value for money due to their reliability, fuel-efficiency and functional specifications our contractors hold in such high regard.’

Mr McCormack also highlighted Finning’s EM Solutions. ‘The excellent service support from Finning was also a key factor in our decision. With the FinCore service agreement in place, this means that our machines will be inspected by in-the-field engineers every three months,’ he said. ‘We know the Cat excavators will be kept in optimum working condition, which gives us confidence that our customers will be satisfied with the machines’ performance. Last year was a very positive one for us and our expectation is for 2015 to follow suit.’

Alistair Murdoch, key account manger for Finning, added: ‘We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with such a key player in the Scottish plant sector. The Cat machines’ functional quality, alongside industry leading fuel efficiency are evident throughout the excavator range, and this goes hand in hand with the remote support services Finning offer. Blackwood Plant Hire’s service to their customers is exemplary, and we look forward to contributing to the future success and profitability of the firm in 2015.’
