New book on Earthmovers in Scotland

Earthmovers in Scotland

A comprehensive look at the Scottish earthmovers scene by photojournalist David Wylie

AS Scottish correspondent for Earthmovers magazine, professional engineer and photojournalist David Wylie has enjoyed privileged access to many mines, quarries, road projects and forestry sites across the country. On his visits he has seen some of the biggest and, arguably, best earthmoving machinery in the world, in action.

Earthmovers in Scotland: Mining, Quarries, Roads & Forestry brings together 32 full-colour reports from these visits to tell the story of the highly skilled, experienced owners, drivers and managers that work with earthmoving equipment and explains why they select, maintain and operate these machines.

The new 440-page hardback book features some of the largest earthmovers in the UK, such as Caterpillar’s D11R bulldozer, Liebherr’s 320-tonne R9350 and the 520-tonne Q&K RH200. It also takes a look at a 1.5-tonne mini-digger, specialist trailers that can lift and transport 1,800-tonne bridges into position, and covers Demag’s H485 record-breaking mining shovel, among others.

Taking pride of place in the book are more than 400 stunning photographs, many of which have not been seen before and many of which feature machines that were the first of their kind. Around 80 of the most important and detailed images are presented as double pages.

Providing a comprehensive look at the Scottish earthmovers scene, the book will be of interest to enthusiasts, owners, drivers and site managers worldwide.

Published by Old Pond Publishing, Earthmovers in Scotland: Mining, Quarries, Roads & Forestry (ISBN 9781910456569) will be available from November 2016, priced at £34.95. To order a copy, visit: www.oldpond.com; or tel: (0114) 246 4799.
