New AC drive range from Vacon UK

Vacon NXP liquid-cooled drives offer 25% cost saving, reduced noise and smaller footprint

ENERGY-saving specialists Vacon UK have launched a range of space-saving, high power density Vacon NXP liquid-cooled enclosed AC drives. According to the company, the new drives can offer 25% life-cycle cost savings compared with air-cooled drives, whilst having a considerably smaller footprint and generating much less noise.

The high-performance drives with their superior cooling capabilities are said to offer a safe and reliable solution for demanding applications in a variety of heavy industries, and particularly in situations where space is an issue.

Vacon NXP drives’ state-of-the-art liquid-cooled design allows heat to be readily transferred to a location where it can be dissipated conveniently, thereby eliminating the need for large and noisy air-conditioning systems.

The new liquid-cooled drives dissipate only 0.1–0.15% of their heat losses to air, helping customers save energy and money on initial installation and operational costs. As an added benefit, they are also up to 12dB less noisy than fan-based drives.

The compact size and smart modular design of Vacon NXP drives also delivers several other benefits. In addition to saving floor space and installation costs, their unique design allows easier installation, connectivity and maintenance.

Although 25% smaller in volume than similarly rated products available on the market, Vacon’s NXP liquid-cooled units are said to deliver the same, if not better, performance.

Moreover, an extensive range of ready-to-use software applications is available so customers can tailor the drive’s performance to their application’s specific needs.

The standard Vacon NXP liquid-cooled enclosed drives can be used with AC motors from 800kW to 1,550kW. However, by using Vacon’s patented DriveSync control concept, four drives can be operated in parallel, offering a power range up to 5.3MW.
