Thomas Armstrong Group take delivery of twenty-fifth Terex Finlay machine from Finlay Plant Northern

THE Thomas Armstrong Group have reached a significant milestone having recently taken delivery of their twenty-fifth Terex Finlay machine from Finlay Plant Northern.

The latest addition to the fleet is a new Terex Finlay 390 Hydrascreen, which is being used to process sand at the Group’s Overby Quarry site in Wigton, Cumbria – one of two sand quarries the company operates in the North West.

In a partnership spanning 35 years, the Thomas Armstrong Group have worked closely with Finlay Plant Northern – part of the Finlay Group of companies – to introduce plant geared to meet their exact needs.

The Thomas Armstrong Group have more than 180 years’ experience in construction services and the manufacture of building products, and according to quarry manager Martyn Cueto, the reason the company keeps returning to Finlay Plant Northern is based on the quality of products and service they receive.

Mr Cueto (left of photo) said: ‘The machines we’ve had from Finlay Plant Northern are great, some of them now are over 15 years old and they’re still in operation, seven days a week, 10 hours a day.

‘And the new Terex Finlay 390 Hydrascreen is no exception to that. It’s cost-effective to run, boasts a simple process and can work in confined spaces. The back-up and service is also fantastic, with any parts we need being delivered the next day.’

Equipped with a fuel-efficient diesel-hydraulic system, the 390 has a large-capacity 14ft loading hopper and a remote-controlled tipping reject grid.

Featuring a robust 12ft x 5ft screenbox on every deck, it is used to process sand from the quarry at a rate of 110 tonnes/h, producing two different products.

The first is an oversize product that is fed to a washing plant to create a single-size aggregate, whilst the second is a high-quality 3mm natural plastering sand.

Charlie Nairn (right of photo), managing director of Finlay Plant Northern, commented: ‘Thomas Armstrong don’t require a three-way split for this application so the Terex Finlay 390 Hydrascreen is the perfect solution for them.

‘The screenbox can be set at variable amplitudes and angles, meaning it has the capability to process sand to an accurate size, ideal for what it’s required to do at Overby Quarry.’
