Local MP welcomes investment at Hope Works

Andrew Bingham MP visits Hope cement works

High Peak MP Andrew Bingham welcomes investment commitment on visit to Hope cement works

HIGH Peak MP Andrew Bingham recently visited Hope cement works to see developments at the site first hand, following Hope Construction Materials’ January announcement of a £14 million investment programme at the plant.

The MP, who was recently nominated for an award for being the ‘MP most engaged with constituents through Twitter’, toured the operation which employs around 200 people and produces approximately 1.5 million tonnes of cement each year.

Mr Bingham (left of photo) was welcomed to the site by Hope Construction Materials’ industrial director, Ashley Bryan (right of photo), who gave an update on the variety of investment projects during a comprehensive tour of the quarry and works operations.

Included in the visit were views of the newly upgraded kiln lines, the temporary chimney in construction and the purpose-built facility for storing cement ’clinker’; as well as meetings with the quarry teams and explanations on how explosives are used.

Mr Bingham commented: ‘This works – an important local employer – has been a part of High Peak history for more than 85 years. I have visited this site several times in the past and Hope Construction Materials are committed to keeping me up to date on developments at the site.

‘On this occasion it was good to hear about and see the major investment programme for myself. The site is clearly part of a dynamic company, committed to running this operation as efficiently as possible for the future.’

Ashley Bryan added: ‘It was a pleasure to welcome Andrew back to the site, especially at such a positive time with Hope Works undergoing significant investment. In addition to our regular events and newsletters, we are always looking for additional ways in which to communicate with the local community and stakeholders.

‘Through the MP’s very active engagement with his constituents, we can help keep High Peak people up to date. We look forward to ongoing discussions with him.’
