Lagan top Northern Ireland market share reports

THE Lagan Group are estimated to be the largest aggregates company in Northern Ireland with a market share of 10%, according to the latest report on the industry by BDS Marketing. The company is thought to be slightly larger than CRH, with RMC in third place. These top three companies have an estimated 28% of the aggregates market in the Province, while the top 10 companies now represent over half of total aggregates production.

But while Lagan are listed as the leading crushed rock suppliers, RMC are believed to have the highest share in sand and gravel, and CRH have a strong presence in both sectors.

The Lagan Group are also estimated to be the largest company in the asphalt sector, again followed closely by CRH. Together, these two companies are thought to have over 35% of the asphalt market, with no other company having a significant market share. The top six companies have an estimated share of 60% of the 2.5 million tonnes a year market.

 

In ready-mixed concrete, Readymix are the leading producers with an estimated share of 24%. In second place are Ready Use Concrete with a share of around 17%. No other producer is thought to have more than 5% of the ready-mixed concrete market, although the top 10 companies have an estimated 70% market share.
