Kentish Ragstone trophies for development excellence

Pat Gallagher and Jason Mulligan

Gallagher Group sponsor production of unique hand-carved trophies for Kent Design & Development Awards

THE recognition of design and development excellence across the county of Kent is to be set in stone in the form of hand-carved Kentish Ragstone trophies.

Winners of Kent Design & Development Awards will receive the bespoke awards at a ceremony this autumn, after Maidstone-based Gallagher Group agreed to sponsor the production of the trophies.

Sculptor Jason Mulligan (right of photo) will create the trophies using material provided by Gallagher Group from their Hermitage Quarry.

Mr Mulligan, whose work is influenced by landscapes, histories and environments, said: ‘I carve abstract geometries influenced by nature’s essential structures and look forward to creating these bespoke trophies from such an important local material.’

Hermitage Quarry is the last site offering high-quality Kentish Ragstone, and this will be the second time Gallagher Group have provided the materials for the trophies.

Pat Gallagher (left of photo), chairman of Gallagher Group, said: ‘The Kent Design & Development Awards are a great way to celebrate the variety and talent behind the many construction projects around the county. We are therefore pleased to be able to help create the awards from a material that is synonymous with Kent.’

The trophies will be presented to individual category winners for: Civils and Infrastructure; Commercial, Industrial and Retail; Environmental Performance; Public Buildings – Education and Community; and Residential – Major and Minor; together with a special trophy for the development Project of the Year.

Jointly organized and sponsored by DHA Planning, Kent County Council, and PR and marketing agency Maxim, the Kent Design & Development Awards take place every two years and celebrate the design excellence of the county’s property and construction industry.
