Ken Clarke visits Lafarge Barnstone

LOCAL MP and member of the Cabinet, Ken Clarke, visited Lafarge Cement's Barnstone Plant, near Bingham, in Nottinghamshire, to officially unveil a state-of-the-art cement packer that will significantly increase the output of the plant and secure the future of some 60 local jobs and millions of pounds for the local economy.
Over recent years, Lafarge have invested more than £6.8 million at Barnstone, expanding production facilities, refurbishing offices and improving safety.Lafarge operate the Barnstone Plant for blending and packaging a range of more than 26 ready-to-use cement-based products, mainly for the DIY market. The plant also exports specialist cements to some 27 countries.The latest investment in the cement packer follows an upgrade of the administration centre at Barnstone, and the installation of a new sand dryer, ensuring the complete modernization of the plant.Commenting on his visit, Mr Clarke said: ‘I am very impressed by the professionalism of all who I met at the plant. Lafarge should be congratulated for their most recent investment in the area, and I am proud that the company has this site in my constituency.’Chris Stephens, Lafarge Cement's Barnstone Plant manager, said: ‘While the construction industry currently faces real challenges, our new sophisticated packer will support new secured business and provide capacity and flexibility for future business.’
