Investment increases capacity at Twigg

Behringer HBP310-403GA steel saw

Steel stockholder and fabricator reduces turnaround times with new Behringer steel saw

TWIGGS steel stockholders and fabricators, based in Matlock, Derbyshire, have invested in a high-performance steel saw to meet the demands of their steel stock and fabrication customers.

The new machine, a Behringer HBP310-403GA, consolidates the company’s already broad spectrum of steel-processing capabilities and, since its installation two months ago, has already proved its worth through accurate and fast cutting of steel sections for a wide range of projects.

Works manager Alan Boden explained: ‘This new machine has increased our capacity and so reduces order times for our customers. We specialize in giving a very quick turnaround on cut steel and we can deliver within two days for most customers.

‘The Behringer saw is extremely operator-friendly and can cut multiple bars at once, fitting well with the capabilities of our existing three saws to provide efficient, high-quality processing for our customers.’

With a cutting range of 310mm for round materials and 400mm x 310mm for flat materials, and bi-lateral mitred cuts from 45° right to 30° left, the saw frame is designed for the perfect cutting of, for example, beams, angled and U-shaped section steel and hollow square section.

Twiggs can produce a wide range of CE-marked bespoke steel structures and engineering items, typically supplying quarries, engineers, fabricators, railways, factories and agriculture.

The majority of the company’s steel and fabrication clients are in the Derbyshire and East Midlands area, but specialist items have been designed, built and supplied as far afield as Sri Lanka and Antarctica.

Twiggs were impressed by the new saw’s capabilities while visiting the Mech16 trade show at the NEC earlier this year. The family-firm has invested around £100,000 in the new machine, together with operator training and the recruitment of an additional steel stock person and a steel sales representative.

‘Over 110 years, our family-owned business has gained a reputation for high-quality steel stock and fabrication and excellent customer service,’ added Mr Boden. ‘Our continuing investment in new technology and capabilities enables us to continue to offer a superlative service, increase the number and type of fabrication projects we can handle and grow our customer base.’
