Hanson UK manager dies suddenly

Colleagues mourn death of Chris Coton, concrete technical services manager for the South West

HANSON UK recently announced the death of Chris Coton, concrete technical services manager for the South West, who passed away suddenly on 26 February 2012 at the age of 59.

Mr Coton (pictured) began his career with Pioneer at the Swansea concrete plant in March 1974 and worked for the company for almost 38 years.

He moved to Pioneer Testing Services laboratory at Forest Wood Quarry, in South Wales, in 1983 and switched to the company’s Avonmouth laboratory in 1990. A year later he was appointed as technical manager for the South West and South Wales.

When Hanson acquired Pioneer in 2000, Mr Coton became area technical manager. In 2004 he became technical services manager responsible for more than 40 plants across the South West and South Wales.

Hanson’s national technical director, Charlie Jones, described Mr Coton as a good friend and an industry stalwart.

‘Chris was a great character and well respected throughout the industry. I will miss him greatly as I am sure many of his colleagues will,’ he said.

Mr Coton served on a number of industry committees and forums and was widely recognized as an expert in the field of concrete technology.
