Garriock Bros make it a Doosan machine double

Doosan DX340LC-5 excavator

Scottish plant hire firm bolsters equipment fleet with DX340LC-5 and DX225SLR-3 crawler excavators

TWO new Doosan excavators – a DX340LC-5 and a DX225SLR-3 – have joined Garriock Bros’ plant hire fleet. The machines were supplied by local authorized Doosan/Bobcat dealers Balgownie of Inverurie, and now form part of Garriock Bros’ rental fleet depot in Inverness, which opened in January 2015.

Managing director George Garriock said: ‘We have been using Daewoo and Doosan wheel loaders and excavators for years and they have developed into top-class machines. On a recent visit to the Doosan Bobcat EMEA campus in Prague, we tested out the very latest Doosan models, both large and small, and it confirmed just how good they are.’

Brian Buchan, manager of Garriock’s Inverness depot, added: ‘With our Inverness site being at the heart of the Scottish Highlands, we are in the perfect location to support clients in and around the Inverness area and north-east of Scotland.

‘The Doosan DX340LC-5 excavator is already on hire to Breedon Group’s Boyne Bay Quarry in Banff, whilst the DX225SLR-3 long-reach excavator has been used on a range of applications, including wind farms and piling work.

‘The feedback from operators has been excellent on both machines, citing the comfort of the cabs to the smoothness, stability and power the machines offer. This has been backed up by the great service offered by Balgownie.’

The 36-tonne DX340LC-5 excavator is powered by a Scania DC9 5-cylinder diesel engine which delivers 237kW at 1,800 rev/min, providing a 13% increase in engine power and a 4% boost in torque over the previous LC-3 Stage IIIB model.

The engine also meets Stage IV emission regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies.

With its super long-reach capability, the DX225SLR-3 is an all-round machine, well suited to jobs such as excavating lakes, digging in sand and gravel pits, and slope forming.

The 24-tonne DX225SLR-3 is powered by a Doosan DL06K diesel engine providing 124kW at 1,800 rev/min. The machine has a maximum digging reach of 15.38m, a maximum digging depth of 11.65m and a maximum digging height of 13.08m. The digging force over the bucket is 149.0kN, while over the arm it is 58.8kN.
