Finning UK support Japanese relief effort

UK & Ireland Cat dealer pledges support for Caterpillar’s charitable donation and offer of equipment

FINNING UK, Caterpillar dealers for UK & Ireland, have voiced their support for Caterpillar’s charitable donation and offer of equipment to help support the Japanese disaster relief efforts following last month’s devastating earthquake and tsunami.

The Caterpillar Foundation, set up to help people and rebuild communities in the aftermath of natural disasters around the world, has announced a $1 million grant to the American Red Cross to provide much-needed support in the disaster relief efforts throughout Japan.

Up to $500,000 of the grant will come from Caterpillar employee, retiree and dealer employee contributions, with the Caterpillar foundation matching the total sum to create a $1 million total.

Commenting on the support efforts, Neil Dickinson, managing director of Finning UK – one of the international dealers that will be making contributions, said: ‘The thoughts of everyone at Finning UK are with not only our Caterpillar colleagues in Japan but also the hundreds of thousands of people this natural disaster has affected.

‘The support given by Caterpillar is something Finning UK wholeheartedly supports, and hopefully it can go someway to providing the help needed to start rebuilding peoples lives and communities throughout the disaster area.’

The support does not end there; Caterpillar Japan Ltd have pledged an additional $1 million to support the disaster relief efforts, primarily made up of in-kind equipment. So far this has encompassed the supply of machinery and generator sets to governmental agencies supporting people on the ground in the recovery efforts.
