Eurovia’s research centre rewarded by the IRF

IRF bestows Global Road Achievement Award (GRAA) upon Eurovia’s research centre for its low-temp mastic asphalt Viasphalt BT

THIS year the International Road Federation (IRF) honoured 11 award-winners from six countries, all of whom have contributed in some way to the development of the road industry.

Launched in 2000, the IRF competition seeks to honour companies, organizations, professionals, and students who have demonstrated innovation or conducted outstanding work in the road and transportation industries.

Eurovia’s Global Road Achievement Award (GRAA) was bestowed upon the company’s research centre, at Mérignac, near Bordeaux, in recognition of its eco-friendly low-temperature mastic asphalt Viasphalt BT.

One of many innovations developed by Eurovia as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, Viasphalt BT reduces production temperatures, delivers considerable energy gains and almost completely eliminates smoke emissions on site while conserving the properties of poured asphalt.

It contains a specific non-food, plant-based additive that is renewable, recyclable and non-toxic to humans and the environment. This provides the asphalt with the same or improved mechanical properties as traditional materials.

Established in 1948, the International Road Federation is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization whose members represent the public and private sectors in 90 countries around the world. The IRF promotes the development and maintenance of roads and highway networks globally through the use of innovative technology solutions and management practices.

Eurovia, a subsidiary of the Vinci Group, are one of the leaders in Europe in the construction, upgrade, and maintenance of road and rail infrastructure. The company operates in 17 countries, employs 40,000 people and achieved revenues of €7.9 billion in 2010.
