Company takes delivery of bespoke Mercedes Antos joint-sealing vehicle designed for safety and productivity

EUROVIA Contracting are continuing to invest in safety and productivity with the purchase of a bespoke Mercedes Antos joint-sealing vehicle to transport the mastic used in the company’s extensive joint-sealing operations on roads and bridges.

The new addition has extra safety features to comply with the FORS (Freight Operator Recognition Scheme), including: steps instead of access and egress ladders; four-way cameras; and safety rails and side under-run guards.

In addition, the loading system for lifting the mastic blocks into the pot is significantly lower, reducing the associated manual-handling risks, and the pots themselves are equipped with a safety chute system, which is also lower than conventional pot lorries, thereby eliminating the risk of material splashing back on to the operative when loading blocks into the heated material. LED lighting has also been fitted to provide a safer working environment at night.

The new vehicle has twin 1.5-tonne capacity boilers, which increases productivity as it allows the application of two different materials on the same site at the same time. Productivity can be further increased by using the pots alternately, eliminating the need to wait for a pot to heat a new batch.

In addition to increased productivity and safety features, the pots are better insulated, heating material quicker and retaining temperature, and the burners are more economical, requiring less fuel to heat the material, which helps to reduce the impact on the environment.

Eurovia regional director Neil Huntington said: ‘The Mercedes Antos pot lorry is a great addition to our innovative and expanding fleet. The safety of our operatives is paramount and any investment that contributes to this is money well spent.’
