Epod advances into CEMEX UK

Electronic proof of delivery system being introduced into company’s asphalt business

EPOD, the innovative electronic proof of delivery system, is being extended into additional business areas of CEMEX UK. Already highly successful and fully operational in the company’s cement business, this month CEMEX will introduce Epod into their asphalt business.

CEMEX Asphalt is the first company in its sector to introduce the system. For customers, Epod guarantees a seamless ‘end-to-end’ service, from the placing of the order to invoicing. It can help minimize costly delays and wastage of valuable materials during delivery and ensures clear and concise invoicing.

CEMEX cement customer Steve Johnson, managing director of Nottingham Readymix, who takes about 400 deliveries of cement per year, commented: ‘We have been taking deliveries using the Epod system for more than a year and it works really well. It is easy for the drivers and my colleagues accepting the delivery to use, and saves the horrendous paper chain that can impact on our business.

'In addition, we know we are going to get deliveries when we want them and on time, allowing us to plan our business.’

Every one of the 130,000 CEMEX asphalt deliveries each year will be loaded into the Epod system operated through a simple-to-use hand-held mobile data terminal (MDT) by the delivery drivers.

The system combines unique vehicle barcoding and the latest GPS tracking technology, allowing the company’s logistics planners to monitor detailed information of the geographical position of each vehicle and proactively plan the next delivery.

Carl Platt, UK Asphalt director, commented: ‘The asphalt Epod system has been tailored to meet the needs of our business. Experience from cement has shown us that Epod reduces invoice queries, removes paperwork, improves back-office co-ordination and, ultimately, ensures high-quality customer service.’
